High School Band and Jazz Band = 7:00 PM. (Holiday attire - dress-up).

This week: Jazz band = Monday evening from 7 - 8 PM!

Big Annual Fundraiser!!!

Today all band and choir students had a kick-off to a very important and much needed fundraiser. No actually selling is involved as all students needed to do was to come to class today with a compiled list of 15 to 20 names of adults who they could text the information to! The company takes it from there on out!

This is a brand new fundraiser, but has the potential to help the music department get back on it's feet after a long lock-down where no fundraisers were permitted. In other words... We're really behind !

All music students "SHOULD HAVE" brought home a flyer for parents explaining the entire fundraiser and the process. It's very simple, but we need everyone to pull their own weight and buy-in to it!

* Students download the company app. and simply text it to 20 adults they know. That's it!!!

Please help the music faculty and boosters catch-up with their finances in order to continue offering great experiences to your kids!

MARCHING BAND FIELD TRIP THIS FRIDAY, NOV. 5TH!!!

Just a reminder to all marching band members...!

This Friday we will be taking the marching band over to the elementary to perform for them on the varsity field . We'll leave at 8:45 AM and return at 11:15 AM...

1. Go to first period and check-in with your teacher.............THEN

2. Go to the music area and load your instruments. (Yes... All pit instruments ). We're performing the halftime show! NO FLIP BOOKS NEEDED !

3. NO UNIFORMS! All you need is school clothes..........jackets are fine too!

*. All teachers AND KCCC personal have been notified, band rosters have been distributed, and everyone is permitted to go on the field trip. Your marching band permission slip also covers you for this! See ya then!

The Music Booster are selling Ad Space as well as places for Friends and Family to send a shout out or message to music students for the concert programs. These ads will be given to the folks attending the concerts and events and will be seen by hundreds of people. This Saturday's Play-Off Game Information

This Saturday's Football Play-Off Game Information:

When: Saturday, October 30th - Report time to school is 3:15 PM and the buses will pull-out at 4:00 PM.

Where: Nelsonville-York High School - 1 Buckeye Dr. Nelsonville, OH. (About an hour and 40 minute trip)

Who: Everybody! If you're a Trojan Pride Band Member..........you're going ! YEAH!

Particulars :

1). We will be performing our halftime show.

2). We will be bringing raincoats (we hope the weather forecast changes, but right now it's looking iffy!

3) Try to eat a late lunch before you show-up at school as there won't be time to eat at school before we leave for the game. I believe the boosters have some things for the band members though!? Also, we may not stick to our normal 3rd quarter "eat" rule, but will allow sections of the band to take turns going to the concession stand through the first quarter.

Hey Band... Super job at the Fredericktown game. We'll know shortly where we will be going this coming Saturday night for the play-off game! Just a few things...

1. We will be in full uniform and will bring raincoats just in case.

2. We will be leaving a bit earlier (to be announced) because it may be a bit further away than usual.

3. Everybody participates in Saturday play-off games... we WILL be performing at halftime!!!

4. Please check your uniform this week and be sure to crease the pants and shine your shoes and instruments!

Just a little insight... This past Friday at the game we were invited by the Fredericktown Band to do a drumline thing behind the visitor stands during the end of the 4th quarter. I'm sure their percussion instructor felt that it would not be disruptive but apparently it was, and we were greeted with some not-so-happy spectators and inappropriate responses. The administration is well aware of the situation and I'd like to lay it to rest at this point. While the actions of a small number of individuals was uncalled for and terribly rude, we need to move-on. I would ask people to please speak to me if they're concerned or need to talk, and not go back and forth on social media. That won't solve or remedy anything. Thanks for your support and...

Monday: No Classes and NO MARCHING BAND

Wednesday: Jazz Band from 3:15-4:30 PM ( NO MARCHING BAND )

Friday: Marching Band 3:15 - 4:30 PM. followed by trailer loading. Buses leave for Fredericktown at 5:30 PM.

NOTE : Who goes on the bus, comes home on the bus.

SHOW: Fredericktown has not seen our Greatest Showman show yet, so that's what we'll give them!

In the future: Our football team will have at least one round of play-offs. All games will be on Saturday evenings, and if you're a marching band member then you are expected to attend !

Super job at the Highland Pumpkin Palooza today!!! See ya Tuesday in class!

6:30 PM: Enter stadium for pre-game

Saturday Evening ... New Albany Band Show. 7PM start time.

4:15 PM Band member report time to band room (polish shoes, instruments)

4:45 PM Load buses and leave for New Albany

5:45 PM Arrive at New Albany (we will partake of the food trucks prior to the start of the festival at 7 PM.) Be sure to bring $ !!!

7:00 PM Band show begins. We are the first band on!

8:30 PM Show concludes.

This week's marching band schedule ...

Monday: 6:00 - 8:00 PM practice. Wednesday: 3:15 - 5:00 practice. Friday: 3:15 - 4:30 practice

Friday football game: Home Game. (It's 7th grade band night so they'll be in the stands with us!)

Saturday: ( New Albany Marching Band Festival ) begins 7 PM.

*NOTE: Band members and parents: There are some students whose pants are exceedingly long. They are all bunched-up and are even sliding underneath their shoes as they're marching. It is the student's/parent's responsibility to have them hemmed/adjusted if needed! Also... black socks are required. Please do not wear ankle socks. the skin of your ankles should not be showing. Thanks! * These things will be taken into consideration when assigning the " UNIFORM CHECK GRADE " this weekend.

Saturday Schedule :

4:15 PM: Report to band room. Shine shoes, polish instruments, get uniform together.

4:45 PM: Load buses and leave for New Albany

5:45 PM: Arrive (Immediately roll-in pit instrument to the track). Take-out instruments, tune in your sections and then line-up in 2's. You will NOT need flip books !

* We'll place our instruments on the track and then find our spot in the bleachers. From there you'll have time to visit the food trucks before the show starts.

7:00 PM: Show begins. We'll let you know more about logistics (when to take-out instrument, warm-up and tuning, etc...

More information for spectators will follow!

We apologize for the confusion... but unfortunately the schools are experiencing a driver shortage. Last week even some of the athletic teams needed to provide their own transportation to games and meets.

In any case...

1). We do have 2 buses scheduled for this Saturday and students are signing on to a buses as we speak.

2) Thank you to all the parents who came quickly to the rescue by volunteering their driving services. We actually had 60% of the b and assigned to cars by 10 AM today. Although you might not be needed for transportation, please come and cheer-on the band ! The massed band finale is at 4 PM and we take the field for performance at 11:35 AM!

3). The schedule is the same...

8:00 AM. School report time

9:00 AM. Buses leave

10:00 AM registration at the university

11:05 AM various marching band clinics

11:35 AM Performance

4:00 PM Massed band performance

5:00 PM? Return to school

*Tickets are $5 pp. at the gate and concessions are available!

HELP! WE NEED SATURDAY DRIVERS!!!

ATTENTION FAMILIES...!

Unfortunately we were unable to be supplied with buses for our Saturday Band Show at Ohio Wesleyan University. There are simply not enough drivers at this time! So...

We need parent volunteers to carpool students to the band show AND bring them back to school again once the band festival is over. We have School permission forms for both drivers and students that will need to be filled out before we leave!

We'll need to pull-out at 9 AM and we'll be returning about 5 PM .

PLEASE shoot either Mr. Dettmar or Mrs. Teschler an e-mail or phone call if you're able to help us.

It's Band Festival Week!!!

Weekly Update:

#1... Great show Friday night! You are to be commended for how you handled the uniforms. It was hot! But you dealt with it, and kept things together! Congrats!

#1A: We'll be starting the senior show this week so please be sure to have your dots, 3-ring binders and flip books ready. YOU MAY USE YOUR FLIP BOOK FOR THIS SHOW AND IT DOESN'T NEED TO BE MEMORIZED!

#1B: This coming Wednesday Dr. Richard Edwards from Ohio Wesleyan University will be joining the period 9 High School Band. He'll be presenting his program as well as working with the band on a selection we'll be performing with all the other bands this coming Saturday ( Salvation is Created ). 8th Graders will be excused from their 9th period class to join us on the stage! Yes... your teachers already know!

# 2. This week practices: Monday evening from 6:30 - 8:30 PM. DRUM LINE will be holding clinics from 5:30 - 6:15 PM (before the 6:30 practice) for the remainder of the season. Please be on time! We'll also practice Wednesday from 3:15 - 5:00 PM and Friday from 3:15 - 4:15 PM.

#3 This week is an away game at Cardington (FULL UNIFORM) . Dinner will be handled the same way that it has for the past 3 weeks!

#4. Band shoes ... PLEASE keep your band shoes in your lockers or in your garment bags.

#5. This Saturday 9/25 is the Ohio Wesleyan Marching Band Clinic and Show. Our clinic is scheduled for 11:35 AM and will be followed immediately by our performance. Parents and family members may attend. Admission is $5 pp. and food stands are available. Schedule is below:

8:00 AM - Report to the band room - Polish instruments and shoes, load trailer, put on pants and shoes, be sure uniform coat is on it's hanger! PUT GLOVES IN INSTRUMENT CASES .

8:45 AM - Band Meeting in auditorium

9:15 AM - Load buses. (Brief student leaders meeting in auditorium)

9:30 AM - Leave for Ohio Wesleyan University

10:30 AM - Check-in and unload, warm-up/tune ( go with your section leaders/instructors!)

11:35 AM - Various band clinics led by the OWU staff

12:15 PM - CHS Trojan Pride Band takes the field

4:00 PM - Awards and massed band performance of Salvation is Created

#6. A big "Thank You" goes out to everyone for putting aside their other important activities to be there for the band this coming Saturday morning! Our athletes have put their games and meets on the backburner for just one day to be with the band. That shows dedication!!! AND... it does not go unnoticed!

Finally, The marching band staff would like to express a bit of gratitude for our new and returning music booster volunteers. Things are really shaping-up, and we absolutely would be lost without your help each and every week!

Great job so far guys! Keep up the good work!

NOTES: RIDING THE BUS ... Generally speaking, everyone goes on the bus and comes home on the bus! The only exceptions would be an emergency. While it isn't a big deal if a parent (once in a blue moon) asks to take their student home from the game, it can cause some logistical issues including: Getting the instrument back to school, helping the band unload the trailer, turning in flip books, communicating with chaperones who need to call roll on the bus each and every time we depart. So... What seems simple and harmless can cause confusion. Like I said... Once in a while... no biggie, but let's try to follow protocol. Thanks!

PLEASE... continue to refer to the marching band calendar and plan ahead. We're halfway there already!

Great Job So Far Everybody!

Here's this Friday's schedule :

3:15 - 4:30 . Practice

4:30: Load the trailer(s). and have dinner. ( Please bring something to eat or have a family member drop something off for you)

5:15: Load buses (khakis, polos and sneakers)

5:30: Buses leave. (Buses pull-out at 5:30 sharp!)

6:15: Arrive at Worthington-Christian (Possibly perform a pre-game)

7:00: Game begins

10:00: "Approximate" time of return to CHS. (PLEASE be picked-up promptly!!)

The show is really taking shape! Everybody at practice on Wednesday ! Gotta Finish-up!

Please remember:

* Athletes are always excused from practice for a game or match but not a scrimmage - that's a practice set. BUT, you MUST make us aware of your absence ahead of time!

* Monday and Wednesday practices are mandatory. Fridays are simply a run through, and not utterly important. We'd rather you miss Friday's after-school practice for your athletic practice than Wednesdays. Athletes are supposed to attend 4 afternoons of their sport and one for marching band + of course, Monday evenings. Unfortunately, if you are absent and unexcused from a practice you will not march in the next performance (but you'll still need to be present at the game!)

* General Attendance: We know things come-up, but you've made a commitment to your team and or your band. You need to be there when you're supposed to. A big " Thank You " goes out to all the members who, no matter what, always seem to be where they need to be! You are not overlooked, and we cherish and admire your work ethic and dedication !

Week of august 30th:

Band practices are Monday evening from 6:30-8:30 and Wednesday after school from 3:15-5:00 PM

Attire for marching band practices: NOTE: The proper attire for marching band practice is... t-shirt with shorts and sneakers. Band members (if needed) should be getting changed prior to practice.... the same way you would for any Varsity sport. Marching and practicing in your school clothes does you no good. We have been noticing students marching in jeans, boots, shoes, etc... and this completely goes against protocol and what is specified in the marching Band Handbook. Thanks for your anticipated cooperation!

Upcoming Marching band Events: When we pick and choose the "very few" marching band events outside of parades and football games, we base our decisions on existing athletic schedules, scrimmages and games. Because we only have "3" band festivals/clinics/competitions this season, attendance at them is absolutely mandatory. That was a stipulation of being a member of the marching band, and students and parents were made aware of that when registering for marching band. "IF" you have a schedule conflict with one of the band events listed below please speak to your coach about being excused from that particular athletic event. Social engagements, work, traveling athletic teams and family social engagements* are not reasons for missing a marching band event. Obviously students who are sick or quarentined are excused. Please see the events below:

Saturday, September 25th - Ohio Wesleyan University Marching Band Clinic and Performance 10:30 AM 'till 5:00 PM. (11:00 AM Clinic with adjudicators) - (12:10 PM. Band Performance)... Those students in athletic events after that time may be excused immediately following our performance! Everyone else will enjoy watching the other high school bands, take part in the massed band finale and watch the "NEW" OWU Marching Bishop Band. High school band members receive a grade for this event as it is educational in nature. ��

Saturday, October 2nd - New Albany Marching Band Show . Begins at 7:00 PM.

Sunday, October 17th - Highland Scots Pumpkin Palooza Band Show . Begins at 2:00 PM

* If you are involved in a wedding out of town need to attend a funeral or have an emergent family situation please make us aware of it as far in advance as you can!

ANNOUNCEMENTS :

1. ALL Band Picture Packages and payments are now due in the band office.

2. Uniforms have been sent to the cleaners. When they return members are to check the length of the pants. All pants should have a straight crease in them. PLEASE have them hemmed if needed. We will check on this in "line-up"!!!

3. PLEASE check the marching band calendar and mark dates NOW! We have 3 Saturday and/or Sunday performances and everybody needs to be there!
