7th & 8th Grade Choir
7th and 8th grade mixes, Men's and Women's Choirs are performance-oriented classes that are geared toward exposing students to a wide variety of choral literature, covering the various historical styles through rehearsal and performance. Students will be given the opportunity to refine proper vocal/choral techniques, breathing skills, sight-reading skills, and basic musicianship. Performances will take place at the end of each quarter during the school year. Their level of excellence exemplifies they quality of the outstanding choral music at Centerburg.
Goals
Improve vocal technique in each singer
Improve sight reading skills, which leads to vocal independence
Learn music of various styles, time periods, cultures and languages
Produce high-quality programs

1st Semester
- Review basic music literacy/theory concepts
- Develop an understanding of good vocal health
- Work on "ensemble" sound as well as individual vocal technique
- Develop sight-singing strategies (rhythmic, melodic, and harmonic)
- Explore vocal timbres as related to musical style
- Prepare and perform October small group and December concerts
2nd Semester
- Continue to refine ensemble skills
- Reinforce music literacy/theory concepts
- Identify aurally and perform vocally scales and moes relevant to current repertoire
- Continue sight singing (increase in harmonic activity and rhythmic complexity)
- Prepare and perform music for an adjudicated festival
- Prepare and perform music for march and May concerts
