Elementary Music

Our goal as a music department is to continue an established tradition of excellence while offering new and exciting opportunities for students. We want to expand their world through music. Every concert, event, trip and contests is specifically designed with education as the main purpose. We expand their horizons through music education. We want them to look back on their days in our program and be able to say, "Because of music I...", and to have had experiences and knowledge that they wouldn't have had otherwise.

Write a description for this tab and include information that will interest site visitors. For example if you are using tabs to show different services write about what makes this service unique. If you are using tabs to display restaurant items write about what makes a specific dish particularly worthwhile or delicious.

Orff Ensemble

The Orff Ensemble is named after Orff Schulwerk which is a developmental approach used in Music Education created by the German composer Carl Orff. It combines music, drama, movement and speech into lessons that are similar to

the way children play.

The Orff Ensemble is meant for students who love music and want to extend their learning outside of weekly Music class. We explore, experiment and create music through poems, chants, songs, instruments and movement.

Here are a few things you and your student will need to know about Orff Ensemble:

*Practice will be at 8:00am  on Tuesday and Thursday.

*Because we only meet one or two times a week, it is important that your child is consistently at practice. If your child will not be at practice, please contact me using one of the methods below.

*If your student is dropped off in the bus line, they may come in the Dock Doors when their bus arrives. If your student is dropped off by car, please have them enter in the office doors.

*We have a concert in the spring: Sunday, May 15th time TBA.

*An ensemble relies on all participants to do their part in practice and performance.

Beginning Band - 5th Grade

Band starts in 5th grade. Students try many instruments at the beginning of the year and then

choose an instrument that fits their person!

The instruments that are used in Beginning Band

are: Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone and Mallets. Band meets one to two times a week during the 5th grade intervention time. We learn how to make a sound, how to properly hold and care for the instrument, how to read Music and how to play as a group. It takes AT LEAST a year to become proficient on an instrument.

Band lasts the entire 5th grade year and then hopefully, each student will continue on into Middle School Band!
