OWU High School Honor Band Participants

This past weekend two of our esteemed CHS Band Members performed in concert with the Ohio Wesleyan University High School Honor Band.  Pictured here are sophomore Wyatt Schmidt, percussion, Junior Hannah Stover, flute and Dr. John Locke, retired Director of Bands at the University of Greensboro and guest conductor of this year’s OWU Honor Band.  The concert was held in the Gray Chapel on the OWU campus on Saturday afternoon after a day and a half of rehearsing with fellow musicians from 20 other Ohio high schools.

The Ohio Wesleyan University Performing Arts Department is pleased to announce the OWU Honor Ensemble Music Festival for band and choir students in grades 7-12. Music students and their directors are invited to rehearse and perform with distinguished conductors and applied music faculty for an enriching 2-day event of rehearsals, clinics, concerts, and more!

Seating auditions are only required for high school honor bands. Part assignments in middle school bands and both choirs will be determined by music teacher nomination. Music teachers may nominate up to 10 students per school and we guarantee all schools will have at least one student represented in the festival.

District X Honor Bands

December

On Saturday, December 4th, 2021 five of our outstanding band members participated in this year's OMEA (Ohio Music Education Association) District X Honor Bands. The concert took place in the Chapel on the grounds of Mount Vernon Nazarene University and featured both the middle school and high school bands. While the middle school students were accepted based on their band director's recommendation, the high schoolers needed to prepare both musical excerpts as well as major and chomatic scales in order to be considered. We're really proud of all of them. Pictures left to right are: Claire Hill - 7th grade flute, Judith Dettmar - Junior Tenor Saxophone, Madican Kennedy - Junior French Horn, Jasper Faught - Junior Bass Clarinet and Marco Pedraza - 8th grade Baritone Horn/Euphonium. Congrats Everybody!
